Northern Suburbs Little Athletics Club

Northern Suburbs little athletics was founded in 1973 by dedicated parents committed to providing sporting activities to all young children of every ability in the local area. The club has continued to grow with record numbers last season making the club one of the largest in New South Wales.

The Club caters for children of all abilities aged between 5 and 17 years. The focus is on children achieving their “PB” – personal best result. Talented athletes may also have the opportunity to compete in higher level competitions, possibly right up to State representation, subject to qualification.

Venue: Rotary Athletics Field, West Chatswood
(at the end of Mowbray Road, on the corner of Epping Road)

Competition: Every Saturday morning commencing in September and ending in March. There are a few weeks break over Christmas/New Year, but otherwise Little Athletics operates throughout all school and public holidays.

Tiny Tots: In a contained environment, Tots are taught gross motor skills with an emphasis on fun and learning basic athletics skills. If demand is high, preference is given to siblings of older athletes already registered with NSLAC.

Age Groups: 6 and above are put into gender based groups with an Age Manager (a parent with some coaching credentials) and follow a program of events ranging from sprinting to long distance, throws and jumps. Results are recorded and published on the web site each week. Children are grouped strictly according to their date of birth - there is no flexibility to change age group.

Timing: Senior events start at approximately 7.45 am. There is sometimes a group warm-up and the track events usually start around 8.30am. Younger age groups sometimes finish earliest, generally mid to late morning, but all Little Athletes must vacate the field by 12 noon each week.

Parental Involvement: For Occupational Health and Safety and Child Protection reasons IT IS COMPULSORY that at least one parent is present at Rotary Athletics Field all times while the child/ren are there, either competing on Saturday or during mid week training.  THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE. Parents are always required to help with the many jobs involved with running the carnival, such as BBQ, canteen, data entry, track timing, setup and pack up etc,

"A friendly club where children and adults want to go
on a Saturday morning".

NSLC continues to be our major sponsor and without this help, NSLAC could not provide many of the facilities which our athletes now enjoy. We thank all at NSLC, and urge our own members to join and support their club.
