REGISTER FOR COACHING THIS WEEK
Since there was no carnival on Saturday 4th September, if you wish to attend any of the above sessions, please send an e-mail to Sally with the following details:
Name, Age Group, Registration Number, Session to be attended.
Please note the age group details and varying times of the sessions and do not register for the wrong age group session, or for two sessions that overlap or are at the same time.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Athletes will run, jump or throw best if they have the right technique. Children who want to improve their performance levels should attend our club coaching sessions which are provided free of charge to registered athletes. Athletes must be in the Under 8 age group and above.
One of our basic aims is to teach children fundamental skills for each event (as distinct from fitness training). We do this during Saturday competitions and at separate club coaching sessions. If you have any queries on what coaching is available for your child, please contact the Coaching Co-coordinator.

Coaching sessions are conducted at Rotary Field on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons during the season by our accredited and experienced coaches, subject to their availability.
Coaching may also be available on Saturday mornings for some younger age groups in events with a high technical component such as high jump and hurdles.
Coaching will be offered in specified certain events at each training session. Not all events can be taught on the same day. A register of events for the following week’s session(s) will be available at the Desk each Saturday morning and notice of the sessions will also be posted on this page.
If an athlete wishes to attend club coaching, they MUST fill in the form at the Desk the Saturday before the session so we can arrange appropriate coaches. The coaching will progress through an event during the season. Therefore it will be an advantage for an athlete to attend a number of sessions in a row in order to learn the skills to progress to an advanced level in an event.
If you have any queries on the coaching available or the needs of your child, please contact the Coaching Co-coordinator or the Centre Secretary at Saturday morning carnivals or by telephone or e-mail.
Each season the club needs more parents to come forward to be trained as Track and Field coaches to ensure that we can provide adequate coaching in all events. Are you interested?
Please contact the Club Secretary for more information.
Coaching Courses for Parents
Most parents do not have a background in athletics or working with children. For this reason, the Centre provides training for all parents in all events.
For the parents who are interested in teaching the skills to the athletes, Introduction to Coaching (ITC) Courses will be held at many local centres during the season.
The ITC Course is run by the Australian Track and Field Coaches Association (ATFCA) in conjunction with LAANSW. The course is aimed at the novice coach working with young athletes with an emphasis on those of primary school age. Its aim is to teach a working model of an event. Please contact the Secretary or check www.laansw.com.au for details of upcoming ITC courses.
The Level 1 Basic Course is run over 2 weekends (23 hours), covers all events on the track and field and is directed towards athletes up to 17 years of age. Successful completion of this course will allow the person to coach all events at a basic level. Further event specific courses in Sprints, Throws, Jumps or Distance can be carried out after completion of the Level 1 Basic course.
The Centre encourages and supports parents to undertake a coaching course and to become an accredited coach to assist in the coaching of Centre athletes on a Saturday or during the week. Course fees may be subsidised by the Centre, but some commitment to assist with Centre coaching during the season would be required in return. For further information on these courses please contact the Secretary. |
